Stepping into this new decade (in Loubs’ of course), I think it’s time for me to share a totally new list with all you dolls: “The 10 Women to Watch in 2010.” These are talented, big-hearted, super driven and totally fabulous ladies to keep an eye on as they lead, inspire and influence us all throughout the year!
Not only are these women awe-inspiring boundary breakers, but they prove if you stay focused, dream big and work hard, anything is possible. And while these lovely ladies make huge strides for women, they also make a difference by inspiring girls everywhere to imagine a whole new world of possibilities. And really, there’s nothing more fabulous than that.
Take a peek at these amazing ladies, and let me know: Who’s your fave? Who inspires you? Who’s on your list?
Brittany Lincicome: Brittany is taking the golf world by storm, and for that, she shoots a hole-in-one onto my list. Her major victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship was totally amazing, and her athletic skills remind us that every sport is fair game for women! Read her inspiring story here.
Marie Wilson: As founder and President of The White House Project, Marie believes women should lead right along with men. Whether that’s inspiring change in local communities or running for president, Marie and The White House Project encourage us to make our voices heard! Learn more about Marie's trailblazing efforts at White House Project here.
Gretchen Bleiler: A female professional snowboarder? You bet! Gretchen has held her own on the fiercest slopes with a collection of trophies anyone would admire. She's already the proud owner of a Silver Olympic medal, but I have crossed my plastic fingers that she'll be bringing home Gold from Vancouver! (Team Gretchen!) Follow her on Twitter here for encouraging words of wisdom.
Tavi Gevinson: She may be young, but don’t underestimate this 13-year-old fashion blogger. Tavi’s blog, “Style Rookie”, receives more than 50,000 readers a day! Whether she’s featured in the glossy pages of Teen Vogue, writing for Harper's Bazaar, sitting front row at the runway or working with Rodarte (so fab!), this teenage style muse is leading the fashion blogging revolution and going to show that you’re never too young to make a big impact!
Cindi Leive: As Editor in Chief of Glamour magazine, Cindi knows a thing or two about climbing the ladder and looking good while you’re doing it. Under her stylish direction, the super chic mag has been lavished with awards, and is widely regarded as one of the biggest fashion forces in the nation by, well, just about everyone. She is also a girl of my own heart, each year honoring the “Women of the Year" - maybe one day I should be so lucky.... Looking to follow her glamourous lead? Start here.
Rachel Roy: With her finger on the pulse of the fashion world, Rachel is a true design leader! Whether creating jaw-dropping, absolutely luxe outfits (like her opening piece at my runway show), or donating her time to wonderful causes, she is always dressed in success from head to toe. Read all about the day-to-day adventures of the fashion maven right here!
Danica Patrick: There’s no doubt Danica Patrick is an amazing boundary-breaker with a real need for speed who just goes to show: The track isn’t just for boys! She puts the pedal to the metal in her everyday life to achieve her dreams, like becoming the first woman to win an Indy car race. And her dreamy cars? Now those are some Hot Wheels!
Susan Taylor: Considered one of the most influential African-American women in journalism, Susan inspired women everywhere for 27 years at Essence magazine where she ultimately rose to the top Editor in Chief. An entrepreneur in spirit and mentor at heart, Susan’s passion and focus today is on her self-founded National CARES Mentoring Movement, which began in 2006 as Essence Cares. As a woman who cares big about us girls and encouraging us to dream and live big, find out more about how to mentor here.
J.K. Rowling: As one of the most famous and widely read authors by kids (and us big kids alike!), J.K. Rowling is not only a wiz at putting pen to paper but also a smart and savvy businesswoman and generous philanthropist. Read all about her here.
Where’s the 10th? Don’t worry, dolls, she’s coming just as soon as you help me pick my next career by voting here! Haven’t you heard? I’m looking for you to help decide what my 125th career will be. And trust me: The options are super fun and definitely inspiring. Plus, when I announce my next big gig in February, I’ll also reveal my 10th lucky lady!
Is there someone else you’d love to see on the list? I’d love to hear! Lemme know in the comments!
Getting down to business,
B.
